Sup y'all,

I just wanted to give everyone one last update on what's going on at CIUT.. If any of the shady business that went down over the last 2 weeks bothers you at all I would urge you to write the CRTC here is the address..

Just a brief explanation of what exactly happened:

First the station was locked out to volunteers for 10 days in which a CD changer was playing much. Programming was completely changed, people were not given any notice of these changes. Those who were given shows in the new format were required to sign contracts otherwise lose their show. Certain clauses in the contract were extremely limiting of free speech at station that was once thought progressive. All these programming changes were done to create a schedule to faclitate advertising, not exactly staying true to alternative radio, as their mandate states in the CRTC license. And finally the worst of all the station sold the overnight slots (12-6am) to virtually canadian to broadcast their 1grove.com over the airwaves. This 1grove shit is so weak, I hope people don't support it.

As a former programmer of "Places and Spaces" at CIUT we were completely opposed to this new direction of CIUT, and I would have to say a minority amoung music programmers. But we signed a contract, but really had no intention of contiuing at CIUT. We did our final show on Oct 12, we were the first show back after the lockout, and staged an on air protest, that eventually got our kicked off because we broke our contract. But our responsibilty to CIUT is not over so I hope those of you who are concerned will write the CRTC and voice them your concerns because they take all letters seriously, and if they get enough complaints they may do an investigation.

It's also CKLN 88.1 findraising this week so I would hope all the peeps that listen to true community radio (not the fake ish ie CIUT) support them with some duckats. I know nuff people on this list listen to CKLN, maybe masala mix, or Power move.... :) etc

Myself and Paul will be representing on CKLN during their fundraising week.. Tomorrow Oct 22 between 5-6 (Straight out tha box), and Tuesday Oct 26 morning 7-9am (Jazz show)... Hopefully in the near future we'll get a show on the real frequency 88.1 .
