Sometimes, the best nights are the ones that happen by accident... Planning to start the evening off at a happy hour, check out Shaft on its opening night, and finish up in Waist-High Foam by midnight, the last place I expected to find myself was in Georgetown, let alone at the early time of 10:30pm. But it's the unexpected turns that sometimes end up being the most fruitful...
Forced into Georgetown by a member of our party who had to be home early, I stumbled into a bar to which, for some reason, I had never been. As I swiped a stool from the bar, picked up some tasty beverages for my friends, and chatted to the cute Gothic bartender, I suddenly realized why I had not visited Georgetown Station before. When we first entered the establishment, it was a typical Georgetown bar - no cover, two floors, large screens for sporting events, somewhat upscale, but also dress down. However, once the clock strikes 11, the skirts get shorter, the drinks get more expensive and 3 large men make sure that a nice long line forms outside. And with that, Georgetown Station "the bar" turns into Georgetown station "the club," and it ain't bad y'all.
The music is the typical top 40 Dance that you've come to expect from the posh college area, but the vibe is refreshingly different with the mixed-ages crowd and lack of attitude that permeates. The place is rather small (it is G-town after-all) but it's very well spaced. The long, railed bar is what first greets you as you enter the bar. Below it is a row of televisions and a classy, clear fridge, both of which stretch along as far as the bar does. Beyond that is an elevated seated area, perfect for chilling and shooting the breeze -- but there would be none of that in Paradox's evening. Oh no, this brotha had to dance tonight - Dance I said!
The dance floor was a decent size with booths all along the side. There is also an upstairs which is more R& B based but on this night it was reserved for a private party (What I wasn't invited? Can't Cyberkrib get a little love?) All in all, an unexpected surprise that kept me entertained all night long, which isn't too easy to do these days.
I'm out, like Reginald in the fourth quarter!!
