TheCyberKrib Entertainment Group Inc. is proud to announce its partnership with the NXNE Festival 2005, presenting two nights of emerging hip-hop talent from across Canada, as well as a number of featured US performers.
TheCyberKrib's status as a key organization in the support of developing urban talent from coast-to-coast translates perfectly into the mission of NXNE, allowing new artists to perform in front of diverse audiences -- including industry representatives.
Through the two showcases being presented this year, there will be artists featured from Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, Philadelphia, and Minneapolis.
Thursday's showcase, presented with In Divine Style, will include performances by In Divine Style monthly host and co-organizer Mindbender, who just recently released his first nationally distributed album Beautiful Mutant on Urbnet Records. SJ the Wordburglar will kick off the night with hip hop, on a comedic slant, with a new 12" vinyl EP about to be released through Hand'Solo Records. Guelp emcee Introspect will make his NXNE debut, while hip hop writer Fritz the Cat will debut his Montreal based experimental hip hop outfit OK Cobra. Eternia, who represented Canadian hip hop earlier this year at SXSW, will perform selections from her recently released mixed CD project Where I've Been - The Collection, highlighting her many collaborative tracks and appearances over the past few years. The night cap will be an open mic session, an In Divine Style staple, where local emcees in the spot will be able to drop a short "16" (bars). Deejays for the evening will be DJ Dalia, Dorc, and Rod Skimmins.
Friday's showcase, presented by TheCyberKrib.com, will kick off with performances by Minneaopolis based emcee Golden, who has been busy collaborating with Black Eyed Peas producer Printz Board, followed by Toronto's Manafest who recently dropped a new video and single "What I Got To Say". Montreal's Specifics will make a Toronto debut with a performance of tracks from their debut album Lonely City release in Japan in late 2004, embraced by deejays across the country with this Japan only release to date. Vandal, Canada's hip hop ambassador will make a short 15 minute special appearance following Specifics set, debuting tracks from his sophomore project, a follow-up to his debut The Nomadic Addict distributed through EMI in Singapore. M1 Academy, the Toronto hip hop collective run by Masia One and Jesse Ohtake, will feature four of their affiliated performers including i.james.jones, Slangston Hughes, Van Khanh, and Masia One, with DJ L'oqenz and breakerdance crew Drunken Monkz.
Lastly, the headliner for the evening will be Dave Ghetto, a Philadelphia based emcee who has been receiving strong buzz on his debut solo album due to be released later this summer. The debut single "Hey Young World Part 2" is being released in mid-June through Counterflow Records, featuring Mystic and Phonte from Little Brother, produced by 9th Wonder. Other producers featured on Ghetto's debut album will include J Dilla, DJ Spinna, Ill Mind, Tony Galvin, Erik Rico, Khrysis, and more. Deejays for the evening will be Rod Skimmins, DJ Twist, and DJ Daydreamer.
