"Ladies and Gentlemen, Rochester's coming in..."
The Foundation Creative Group is extremely proud to announce that recording artist ROCHESTER a.k.a. JUICE has won "FLOW 93.5 FM's FIRST ANNUAL SOUL SEARCH!" (Toronto, Canada)
Amidst heavy competition ROCHESTER's stand out performance caught the attention of FLOW's special guest judges David "Click" Cox of Universal Music Canada, Namugenyi "Nam" Kiwanuka of Much Music, Sharon Lee Williams of Music Ent., and Trevor Sheldon from UMAC/Trebas. Taking the stage late in the audition process, ROCHESTER asked the crowd to sit back and reminisce for a minute about being back in grade school and that girl that used to play across from them in the sandbox. This introduction led to him performing one of his original tracks entitled "Young Love", an ode to playground sweethearts. His energy and natural charisma quickly won over both his fellow contestants and the judges alike, resulting in him exiting the stage amidst loud cheers and enthusiastic clapping.
As the winner of the SOUL SEARCH contest ROCHESTER is entitled:
* A performance opportunity at the FLOW 93.5FM Urban Music Showcase at Canadian Music Week on Saturday, March 1, 2003.
ROCHESTER's performance will take place on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at the Opera House, as part of FLOW 93.5 FM's Urban Talent Showcase during Canadian Music Week. Also featuring Rascalz, IRS, Jully Black, and BrassMunk.
ROCHESTER a.k.a. JUICE is also the recent winner of the Universal Music Canada sponsored "My Block Remix" contest. ROCHESTER and two of his FOUNDATION Creative Group brethren MHEDIKC (male MC) and JAROD (male vocalist), submitted their own version of Scarface's summer time banger and were rewarded with their original track "TooLong" (produced by Mellenius of Tone Mason) earning a spot on theĀ "HOMEGROWN: Sumthin' 2 nod ya head 2" vinyl. Five hundred copies of this vinyl will be serviced across Canada by the Universal Urban department.
Many thanks go out to FLOW 93.5FM and Universal Music Canada for supporting and working to shine light on Canadian urban talent where many have ignored the burgeoning scene. Their leadership will help Toronto kick down the entertainment industry's door. Big shouts and respect also goes out to everyone involved in both contests - the competition was fierce and together we will make our city known as the Mecca for talent and soul that it is.
