Verdict ..... RUN
Back

Do my eyes deceive me? Turntablists and electronic music? Well it's about time something like this came out. My expectations upon seeing this release from OM records were large, mostly due in to OM records' history of quality releases dating back to the Deep Concentration compilation.

As opposed to a Turntablism album which will eventually leave you de-sensitized to all scratches or an electronic album which isn't consistent, Tektonics produces a steady blend from both genres. Just when you think that all those jazzy loops and bleeps couldn't get any better, someone like The Scratch Perverts drop some tasteful cuts over the beat in their collaboration with Photek on "The Water Margin".

Tracks that will have you chill-laxin' on the front porch are: "Superfunk 2000" by Soulstice and Dj Curse, "One Word" by Tim "love" Lee and Dj Disk and "Locus" by Ming & FS and J-Rocc.

Tracks that will have you wearing a neckbrace for a week: "What?" by Cold fusion and Dj Vin Roc starts off as a laid back drum n' bass track and then slowly builds up the intensity, while "The Jug" by Howie B and Dj Apollo should get you from the start. Also noteworthy is "Never Ending Snorkel" by Wagon Christ and X-man Rob Swift.

The one track that will make any b-boy want to get their "fantastic boogie" on is the collaboration between the Freestylers and Z-Trip of the BombShelter DJ's on "Check the Skillz" (and how!) The Freestylers definitely know how to make b-boys throwdown and Z-Trip's credentials are backed by previous work on "Deep Concentration" and "Live at the Future Primitive vol.2".

Bottom line: this is good music. Great production, turntablists and very few tracks disappoint. Another quality release from OM records.
