(SLIDE)
Over the past year or so, the Dungeon Family has been making a Wu style assault on the music industry. Since Goodie M.o.B.'s "Still Standing," the slept on, but musically excellent "S.W.A.T. Healing Ritual" by Witchdoctor, and Outkast's brilliant, "Aquemeni," Organized Noize productions has proven that they are much deeper than just Outkast and Goodie M.o.B. Just a couple of months ago, Cool Breeze released the hot single "Watch For the Hook," showcasing the entire Family. As Dre of Outkast opened, "Never has every member of one crew been so diverse." Continuing the comparison of the Dungeon to the Wu, Cool Breeze is like Raekwon, liberally lacing his lyrics with slang. The difference, however, is that Cool Breeze rhymes in a slower, more laid back style, making him easier to understand in some cases.
Production is mostly handled by Organized Noize, and is beautiful, diverse and musical. Guest lyricists Outkast, Goodie M.o.B., Witchdoctor, Kurupt, and Backbone deliver and hold their own. As a pure lyricist, Cool Breeze is not the most innovative or well-developed brother, but his story telling skills are excellent and his delivery is clear and precise.
Tracks to check for include: "Watch For The Hook," "Cre-A-Tine," "Butta," (a ghetto ballad if ever I've heard one), and "Black Gangster." On the whole though, this is a VERY solid and album.
The final verdict: Definitely worth a listen. If you are a fan of Outkast or Goodie M.o.B. you should really enjoy this album. If you hate them, you're likely to hate this too. If you're indifferent, go have a listen before you make the purchase. There's very little filler material here, so enjoy this album.
