Sometimes, short can be oh so sweet. Such is the case with the Energy Provider EP, Da Product. It's no secret that Detroit has put itself on the map in the last couple of years, and Energy Provider is adding her bit to the city's rep. There's no effort to emulate the styles of successful or up-and-coming D acts such as Slum Village, Eminem, D12 - this EP stands on her own.
Da Product begins with "Musician," an invocation of the soul of music within the listeners. It does an excellent job of setting the stage for the musical production to follow, and it's short enough to catch your attention and leave you wanting more. The production as a whole on the EP is pretty good, handled by Secession, MetaMorphasis, and I-Ron-Ic-Lee.
The Energy Provider's lyrics stand strong on their own as well as being well sequenced with the production. It's quite obvious that she does put a lot of energy into her delivery. She also has talented guest rhymers in the form of Mr. Cape, MetaMorphasis and Poppi 2 Guns.
Pay particular attention to "Represent," "Goddess," "A Yo," "Hip Hop," and "Torn." The whole 6 song EP is impressive though, and definitely left this reviewer looking forward to hearing more of her style.
The Energy Provider is a real woman, not some puppet with her strings pulled by a man behind the scenes. As such, she has a slightly different but equally valid (and harder hitting than most) take on the music. Expand your horizons and check this one out.
