Lo Kreepaz present another truly underground production, bringing A-519 Special Edition. This group of 4 MCs from London, Ontario has a lot of talent, but unfortunately, there are some misses that keep this album from being as good as it could be.
Production sounds pretty good, but it can get repetitive. It seems that the beats never really progress, instead just being simple loops with elements added or dropped from time to time. The lyrics are, for the most part, excellent, with fluid flows and direct deliveries. The hooks, however, seem to be lacking some catchiness as they don't draw you in the way a hook is supposed to. They also could have done without the singing (which sounds forced) in several of their songs.
Keep listening though, because there is a lot of material on here, with varied concepts and consistent rhyme talent. And while the production sounds unfinished in some cases, the loops and basic structure are solid.
There are some stand out tracks here, specifically "Work It Out," "Vibinallnite," "Da Force," "Do Sumthin Wid U'r Life," and "If I Ever Get Outta Here."
As an introduction, this album does a good job. There's a solid foundation here to build on, so expect good things from the Lo Kreepaz in the future.
