This is the People Under The Stair's sophomore album, but they recognize that they aren't exactly a household name yet. In fact, on the intro, they poke a little fun at themselves, listing a few of the disparaging comments they've no doubt heard.

Thes and Double K, the two members of PUTS, have put together an excellent album. It has a feel similar to some of the other West Coast Underground artists - melodic, organic sounds and a return to simple emceeing. Their sound is definitely unique though, as they manage to be a member of the community while standing on their own.

As previously mentioned, the production is very organic sounding. Thes One is an expert at changing the beat up, keeping the listener from being bored by repetitive sounding beats. There are some familiar elements that may have been used in other songs, but they're always flipped differently. Other than that, there's definitely a crate digging factor on the tracks here.

Lyrically, neither Thes nor Double K are earth-shattering. They are, however, quite talented, and ride the beats skillfully. Their simple flows and delivery make it quite easy to understand what they're saying, not always the case with hip-hop. Their senses of humour are also firmly intact, a refreshing change from "thugs" who take themselves entirely too seriously.

The laid back feel on this album makes for some smooth jazzy tracks to check. Listen carefully to "Crazy Live," "Sterns to Western," "Blowin Wax," "Yehaw Partystyles," "Zignaflyinblow," "Earth Travelers," and "The Cat." And don't forget the bonus track at 6:02 into the last track. It's just a bunch of shout outs, but the beat is kinda sweet still and uses the same sample as Slum Village's "Fall In Love."

There are no claims here to be super groundbreaking or lyrical terrorists. This is straight up, unadulterated hip-hop for fun. Mellow, musical production meets old school storytelling lyricism and the result is pure butter.
