Verdict ..... SHUFFLE
Back

The man that left you "iggin'" on his last LP is back with his sophmore effort. This album showcases Chico on both lyrics and production, with a majority of the LP's songs written and produced himself.

"The Game" leads off the album with the story of a "bootleg pharmacist" and the life that he lives. This is a sort of continuation to Erykah Badu's "Otherside Of The Game." A nice soulful track, with a good message to it. "Everybody Knew But Me" is a nice little ballad about a suddenly ended releationship. It may seem funny, but the use of girls names as the hook on the chorus got me feeling this one.

Now, from here on the album unfortunately just seems to fall off into a seriew of average to mediocre tracks. The production seems very stiff and synthetic, which could be accounted for by a lack of live drums, bass and percussion. Lyrically, these songs are pretty stagnant too. This being very unfortunate for an artist that I thought could turn out another solid album.

"Listen To Your Man" featuring Joe falls into that overdone bouncy type track. "Sorry" just loses me at the chorus, which seems a bit too sappy for my liking. "Till Tomorrow" is just plain heavy on the CHEEZE factor. Livin' it up a little Chico...sounding like elevator music to me.

Final Verdict: This album could have been better with a little more variety and "outside" influence on the production side of things, leaving Chico to concentrate more on his lyrics. Better luck next time.
