As some of you may know, things in San Francisco move at their own pace. Some times fast and hard like the Ol' New York. Most times nice and easy like sunny San Diego. Well, now that that's out of the way, lets talk about hip hop.

"What you niggas know about the dirty south"-goodiemob

October 25, South San Francisco - OutKast Listening Party

Surrounded by Bakeries and Mill houses, what was once possibly an AutoHaus, is now the home of Savage Promotions. The one and only CEO of Savage, my main man JENO, hosted this lovely but comical event. It all starts off w/ trying to find the damn place.

If you live in a city w/ a big warehouse district, I'm sure you can sympathize. As I sit shotgun in my man Rocky's Acura coupe, the endless rows of buildings and dark alleys seem to have been purposely designed to get you lost. Good thing we noticed a crowd of lovely young ladies, half clad I might ad, wandering aimlessly around the empty, South City streets. We knew we were close.

Now if you are ever sidin' w/ me to a function, let me just warn you that the front door is always an adventure. As usual, I lagged on my RSVP, Showed up w/ more than the allotment of guests, and of course late. (what I like to call… Phillipino time) Needles to say, TMCREW was in the house.

Anyway, past this cheesy black velvet curtain thing, and an over weight guard, was a huge, smoke filled room. On the left was a make-shift bar, manned by three dudes that looked as if they had been doing a bit of boozin' themselves. Cool, I thought. Now to my right, a table loaded w/ FADER mags that just happened to have two notches behind it, smilling away. Mmmmm… I thought. The rest of the warehouse was packed with collapseable chairs, already half full, that eventually led to a stage. The stage was a work of art. Put together (for three hours I hear) by KMEL 106.1 superstar dj, Rick "the dragon" Lee. Now the chairs and stage become a comedic focal point, but that's later.

Everybody and there Mamma was in the house. At least one member of all the Bay area Hip Hop crews were in full network mode, including myself. Every promotion team, under- ground beat writer and radio personality, was busy fending off the usual groupies while they looked for new ones. AAAHHH the life. Last but not least, the LADIES were in full effect. The women that attend Hip Hop functions in the bay don't mess around when it comes to their appearance. The word for the day is "DAHYIUM"

OUTKAST. That's right. I almost forgot what we were talking about. So here I am, schmoozin' w/ the best of them. The drinks at the bar were on the house. They had this new " energy" shit that tasted like ' tussin. It got you hammered though. The only other drink they had was Black Vodka. I mean the stuff was black. Mixed w/ cranberry it was cool. I had about 7. ( add that to the 2 shots I took w/ the bartender ) Lets get ready to rumble.

On the stage, theres this guy, perpin' like he's a dj. Couldn't mix a drink. Anyway he's just puttin' on tracks and running off stage to get his mack on. Ironically the house was packed w/ the Bays best djs, and THEY weren't about to do a thing about it. Drinks all around, on me! Now just as I get into a deep conversation w/ Charles Woodson ( DB for the Raiders ), the lights dim, and OutKast comes creepin' onto the stage.

Remember that I'm trying to keep a long story short.

All the females break into that ear piercing frenzy that drives boyfriends crazy. These guys are schlumpin' around the stage like they are drunk. Big Boi & Andre greet the crowd, as the beats slowly fade in the back round. The shriek. The dudes join in this time.

Except for the VIPs, $20 was expected at the door. This is where all the chairs, the people in 'em, the stage and the 20 bucks all join hands. Now I like OutKast, so I was just about to give them my full attention when I heard, " We love y'all " (in that lazy ass southern drawl) " Buy the new shit " pause " We love y'all, PEACE ". These cats jumped off stage, hopped in the Ill Trendz (source) truck and bounced. Silence filled the room as every one picked their bottom lip off of the floor. I turned to look at FUZE ( Digital Undergrounds Dj ) & simultaneously we laughed so hard that every body turned to look at US. The first thing that came to mind was that these guys didn't get paid for this. I laughed again…………………. Time to go.

If you have never seen a thousand people's brains fart at once, it has to be one of the funniest things to witness. Either that or I am a psycho like my girlfriend always tries to tell me. All the other stuff that goes down at these events could only be experienced in person, so Ill leave you all to your imaginations. You know, that thing we used to use before TV ?

    Ain't a damn thing changed !

I just got back from the OkayPlayers Tour concert, but that's next week's topic sooooooooo, Tea Tea till then, TahTah for now.

Major props to Ichiban & the Entire CyberKrib Staff for putting up w/ me.

With this being my first report, I feel its necessary that you know as much about me as possible. For in future reports I will be shootin' off at the lip.

As for the Bay Area Hip Hop scene, the word for the day is INCOGNITO. If you were to ask many of the artists that come from the east, they will tell you that the bay is packed with hard core talent. The beloved Kool Keith, ( whom I used to publicly say was my favorite mc unitll he became everyones favorite mc, now I must go back w/ Kool G Rap, or B-Legit for different reasons of course) migrated out west to connect with Sucka Free natives the Automator & dj Q-bert to bring forth one of the toughest underground releases know to date. From East Bay trunk funk,V-town mob style, to the SFC sound, bay music is so original, I would personally be surprised if any SF crew received national accolades without selling out.

    WHAT IS THIS "FRISCO SOUND"?

There have been emcees out here ever since my first memories. Wild Style & other old skool flicks set it off for me. Anyways, back in '90, when AmeriKKKas Most (ICE CUBE) dropped, it caused a hip hop revolution in the SFC. From local legends like Hugh E. MC, IMP, RBL, Totally Insane & Dre Dog, to so many under crews that I should start a list. Up-tempo, Hard Knockin' tracks, with no-nonsense lyrics. Combine that w/ those funky bass lines from across the bay (Too Short, Ant Banks, E-A-SKI & Mac Dre to name a few), and the Frisco sound evolved into something that to this day is unprecedented. For now my time is up, check back and I will fill you in on all the happenings worth mention in the Bay.

    ONE.
